The Sanderlanche Podcast

Back to 3 chapters this week, and everyone is very interested to see our three separate stories begin colliding a bit. We've reached about the halfway point this book, and everyone can sense that things are really starting to fall into place. The final gang leader is revealed, and Sarene reveals herself to Iadon (not like that). All this and Old Man Joe on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Our last two-chapter chunk for this book. The crew is outraged by Dilaf and his unauthorized attempt to burn an Elantrian. Then they're amused by our meeting with Hrathen's good buddy, Forton the potion maker. He's a heretic, a hypocrite, and loves doing drugs, a triple threat, really. After that Raoden makes a discovery about AonDor that has the crew optimistic that maybe some magic will show up in the book after all. All this and a list of things Duladel is famous for on this episode of The Sanderlanche!

Jaymee is back this week! And we're so excited about it that I think we went a little crazy on this episode. It's a long one. Everyone thinks that Raoden is maybe having too easy a time of it as he converts his second gang in these chapters. At the same time out crew is very interested in all the character developing Sarene gets in her section. Finally, we're confronted with the age-old (ok, maybe not that old) question, would you rather be a Skaa or an Elantrian? Find out our answers on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Sarene attends a party in these chapters, and the Hrathen takes a walk. It's more fascinating than it sounds. Lots of little tidbits get dropped in these chapters that our crew wants to know more about. Sarene is going to teach the women how to fence? The Fjorden monasteries train secret assassins? Zapp Brannigan works for Iadon? And then it devolves into a mixture of references to DBZ and DBZ abridged. So ... yeah, that happened on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Hrathen is preaching and Raoden is on a bit of an adventure in these chapters. Meanwhile, the Sanderlanche crew is excited by how much information is being revealed. Some predigments are panning out and others have been shattered on the unforgiving shores of the plot. Beyond that, this installment is a big one for diversions, distractions, and deviations. Raoden and Sarene chapters only this week, and while something does feel a bit missing, not knowing what Hrathen has been up to this time, Sarene in particular has given the crew plenty to talk about on this episode. Raoden is starting a new gang, and Sarene may be kind of doing the same thing. What does our crew think of the political maneuvering going on in Arelon in these chapters? Good question. Dac is back this week as we jump back into Elantris! We're starting to see the outline of a plan from each of our viewpoint characters in these chapters, and it's got the Sanderlanche crew really interested to see where it's all going. On top of that, some interesting revelations come unexpectedly out of a question from a listener's email this week. Everyone is excited to be back in the thick of things on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Well, we ran out of books we've already read on the show, and there's still one week before Dac and Jaymee return. What to do? How about we play a little game. We're opening it up to all of fantasy (though Brandon still makes an appearance or two). Can Joe guess the book from the 1-Star reviews of that book? Dac and Jaymee are taking a bit of a break after welcoming a beautiful new baby into the world. And, you know, it's Australia, and everything is out to get you there. So they've got to prepare the kid for that. In the meantime, Joe and Data needed to come up with something to keep everyone entertained. For this episode, that's reading 1-star reviews of The Final Empire from Amazon and Goodreads and discussing the opinions of people who, for whatever inconceivable (I don't think that word means what you think it means) reason, hated the book. The world of Sel and of Elantris in particular are building up. Our cast is loving Sarene. They're liking Raoden, and they're worried about Hrathen. So, basically, everything is going according to plan. It's way too soon for any solid guesses about where all of this is going, but that doesn't stop our cast from giving it a go and putting their all into predigments for you to be amused and/or shocked by. That's just how we roll here at The Sanderlanche!

This week we start in on Elantris. Every is pretty pumped to be trying out something new, even if the various fantasy names Brandon came up with do cause some ... consternation? Yeah, sure, that's a word for it. Lots of exciting new stuff to explore in this whole new world, ending with some very deep predigments, considering how little the crew has to go on. Our time on Scadrial draws to a close this week, at least for now. It's bittersweet for some of the crew. On the one hand, we get to see our old friends again. On the other, Spook is king. Stay tuned after the Secret History discussion, though, for a dramatic reading of The Traveler, an unpublished, never-even-finished short story by Brandon. The Cosmere really begins to open up with possibilities for us on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Lots of weirdness this week, not the least of which is the IRE and what the heck is going on with any of that. There's cons being pulled and possibly a rave happening. We find out the secret identity of the sexy drifter, and everyone is thinking maybe there's something more to this guy than we thought before, but what could it be? Oh, and also Kelsier becomes a god. You know, no big. The big news, though, is that Joe finally gets to really delve into the mediocrity of Final Fantasy 9, a moment I know you've all been waiting for. Your prayers have at long last been answered on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Lot of chapters in this, the penultimate episode of the Mistborn era 1 trilogy. Vin's a god now. Whoda thunkit? Certainly not any of our crew. No one is quite sure what to expect next since, "main character becomes a god" wasn't on anybody's bingo card up to this point, and that's something of a game-changer. We're deep in the Sanderlanche now, and everyone is flailing a bit trying to figure out where it's going to put us down.
