Do you remember last time when Dac and Jaymee were oh-so-sure Elend would never be easily convinced to leave the city? Yeah, that was funny, wasn't it? Anyway, there's a wedding, and then Vin and Elend leave the city. (Dac is ready to throw in the predigments tower at this point). Meanwhile, Joe has COVID and yet his dedication to the show is so strong that he shows up for the discussion anyway. This guy. So what kind of mess do we make of it all this week? We're back and more non-sensical than ever. There are some big things happening in these chapters, and one of them may or may not have been predicted by Joe for quite some time, and, oh, isn't he smug about it. On the other hand, everyone is absolutely delighted to see the end of Zane. Things are starting to get revealed, and the eponymous sanderlanche seems to be revving up. This week there's a really spectacular fight that leaves no one feeling very good, particularly not Vin, but our newbies aren't far behind her there. They're all pretty united in their hatred for Zane at this point, though. So that's something. We're moving in to the last quarter of the book now, and people are starting to get on edge a bit. How much of the story could Brandon possibly wrap up in the remaining time, and who will we lose along the way? Hear the theories and the fears on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Vin sits out these chapters entirely, and, surprisingly, our crew is kind of energized by that. Maybe it's the fact that Elend is finally acting like a king, or maybe it's the part where he makes a suicidal stroll through the koloss camp. Regardless, Dac, Jaymee and Joe are loving the Elend-heavy chapters. Who thought we'd ever say something like that after how they felt at the end of The Final Emprie, right? Be careful what you wish for. Our crew finally gets their long-awaited action scene, and it's ... it's a rough one. There's body parts exploding and Vin taking a beating. Not for the faint of heart, basically. We also get the election we've been building to for oh-so-many chapters now, and it's a bit rough as well. Basically, this episode is one great big monkey's paw. Beware! Beware The Sanderlanche!

Our crew is really vibing with these chapters, despite the continued lack of action scenes. Don't get me wrong, Joe and Dac still don't love Cett, but our friends from Terris have finally started really digging into this research on the Deepness, and that's got everyone excited, not to mention our first Breeze POV. The sad part is, we're quickly running out of suspects for who the Kandra is. Could Joe have been right all along? Anything is possible on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

In this episode, we've got some meta discussions of the book and how we're feeling now that we're about halfway through. Jaymee has had enough of library book club scenes, and Joe and Dac have both already had enough of Cett, despite this being his first actual appearance. Then we get into some of the secret, hidden mysteries of the Kandra and get outraged that Vin doesn't care as much as we do. There are so many juicy secrets out there just beyond our reach, and our crew is starting to get tired of that too, on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

A deep discussion of The Deepness takes place in these chapters, and our newbies couldn't be happier about it. Who cares about who gets to be king when there's a mysterious (possibly tentacle-laden) monster out there waiting to destroy the world ... or something. You know, it's not entirely clear. In any case, that's followed up by the shocking and unexpected introduction of Cett himself. Now this is good television - err - book. Everyone was surprised by this twist, but only one of our hosts instantly shouts the equivalent of, "Off with his head!" Vin and Elend go into the beast's lair, and we spend a decent amount of time realizing just how disgusting Straff Venture really is. I mean, we thought he was bad before, but that was peanuts to what we get to see from him this week. Our newbies are still looking for some action to kick off, but they keep getting politics instead. Ah well, with three armies hanging around and an anonymous allomancer hit squad in the wings, we're bound to get some good stuff at some point, right? Unless everyone decides to sit down and talk things out like mature adults. Not bloody likely, not if we have our way on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

In this episode, everyone but Tindwyl is happy to have Sazed back in town; no one but Breeze cares much for Allrianne; and each of our three newbies is ready for some action to kick off. Shockingly, no one was thrilled that we took a chapter off to go shopping. Go figure. This week Sazed is back, and trouble is following right on his heels, but the crew takes it better than any of us expected. We also get to meet Allrianne Cett, daughter of Ashweather Cett, one of the men currently besieging Luthadel. We don't trust her. Jaymee thinks she might even be a Kandra. Then again, we think that about nearly everyone at this point. Most of all, we're all delighted by Vin and OreSeur's heart to heart. These two crazy kids (well, one crazy kid and one crazy bone-eating monster blob dog, but that's a mouthful) might just make this thing work after all. The big question everyone is asking, though, is, this book is called The Well of Ascension; when is this going to turn into a buddy road trip movie where Vin and Sazed go find the well? When indeed. The story feels like it's beginning to heat up, and our newbies are excited. Check it out on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

In this week's episode, there's a lot of bad going down. Straff Venture is ... well, horrible. I mean, there's not much more to say, but we do say a lot about how horrible he is. Then there's the Koloss who are ... also horrible but in other ways. We spend a pretty good amount of time being creeped out about them. And then Joe has a rant about Spook. In these chapters, Elend gets put down, which everyone loved, Sazed meets a crazy guy, which everyone is disturbed by, and Elend gets a makeover, which, oddly, is starting to bring Joe over into Camp Elend. Who woulda thunkit? The same old mysteries are still haunting us. For example, what is the Deepness? We've gotten through a book and a quarter now, and the question has chosen, very inconsiderately, to not answer itself, much to everyone's frustration (but particularly Dac; Jaymee almost seems happy just imagining a tentacle monster and calling it a day). Join us as we continue to dig into the ever-more-mysterious world of Scadrial on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

This week our heroes explore the spooky Conventical of Seran, wary of danger at every turn, and then we have a friendly chat with a mist puppy and a strategy session with the crew. Wait, I say "our heroes," but are the heroes of this podcast really the heroes of the book, or are the heroes of the podcast Jaymee, Dac, and Joe? Deep questions. Deep, completely irrelevant to anything questions. Really makes you think. Or maybe it doesn't. Whatever. The episode has all your favorites, discussion, theorizing, hating on Spook. In these chapters we get some political machinations, a new army, and a shocking number of skeletons in closets. Not the metaphorical kind. The kind that are made of bones and hanging out in closets for some reason. It seems like there's a new kandra in town, and Jaymee, Joe and Dac all have theories on who it might be. Dac, Joe and Jaymee continue to be bombarded by the new mysteries that this second book is unveiling during its opening chapters. One thing, at least, that puts them on more familiar ground is the opportunity to hate on Spook some more. So that's got to be comforting. But the deeper questions remain. What is the mist thingy? Who is the Watcher? What's up with Marsh? And did Sanderson really have Vin give the kandra a dog's body so that he could make a joke about the guy with the dog's body being her new dogsbody? Who knows. We certainly don't on this newest episode of The Sanderlanche!

We start in on the second book of our Sanderson journey this week with The Well of Ascension. Seemed like a good idea after finishing The Final Empire. It would have been an odd choice to jump to Warbreaker or something at this point, I think. Will our hosts be happy that Elend hasn't been deposed in the time between books? What will they make of The Watcher and the mysterious thing in the mists? Do they expect that Straff Venture will be getting his long-awaited Father of the Year trophy this book? In this episode we look back over some of the most accurate predictions from our read-through of The Final Empire. Some of them aren't so out there as to be mind-blowing, but some were eerily correct. After that, we discuss our first Cosmere short, The 11th Metal. Kelsier fights his first mistborn, and Gemmel gets a sweet fork. Everybody wins, except for that guy who died I guess, but he was a jerk anyway. This is it, ladies and skaa, the end. Our three newbies finish their first ever Sanderson book.
